Third episode in the Seas of Luna series with the Synthetic Sound Labs module for large format synthesizers. The Matrix is a realization of the famous Triadex Muse from the 1970's. An algorithmic composer in a two space module with a clock input, gate and control voltage output as well as an audio output. The Matrix streams a series of pitches and gates to be used with the modular for building linear phrases. • The initial idea of this piece was based on an impression of The Sea of Crisis on our brother moon. I was looking for a chaotic and busy feeling that is rough and full of texture. • I used a few new patch ideas to add some varying cadences and linear progressions on this real-time recorded piece. It was performed at once and recorded to five tracks in the DAW. Each of the three tonal structures are taking the voltage pitch info from The Matrix and sculpting it into different patterns using trigger sequencers, sample hold modules and quantizers. There is a Q172 Quantizer Aid module that picks up the initial pitch voltage from The Matrix and also sends off a MIDI stream to the Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave for the lower timbre bass part. Other than the 3rd Wave, all sounds are from the modular in real time. • Percussive parts are generated from clock signals and various sequential switches and dividers to add some rhythmic sugar to the mix. • The pad sound is from the Synthetic Sound Labs build of a Mutable Instruments Peaks called Woven Spirits . It is sent through an Electro-Harmonix Grand Canyon pedal. The pitch voltage is derived from the main stream of The Matrix into a S H with timing from the STG Time Divider and Integer Divider. • The recording was preserved in Cubase and video was managed in Final Cut Pro. • https://steamsynth.com/shop/moog-unit...
