There are several advantages to the centrifugal casting process compared to the static casting process. • The Centrifugal Casting Process begins with the electric induction melting of high grade materials and close control over chemistry and temperature. After pre-heating the ladles the furnace is tapped and the ladle transported by electric overhead crane to where the mold is rotating at high speed within the spin casting machine. At the correct temperature the shell metal is poured first and after an appropriate time the softer, tougher core metal is poured giving the desired fine grained bi-metallic structure. • The sleeves are pre-machined prior to heat treatment in vertical boring machines. Following heat treatment the sleeves are finish machined to customer drawings and are inspected utilizing a portable co-ordinate measuring machine. Upon completion of Centrifugal Casting Process and final inspection the sleeves are carefully loaded on a flat bed truck for delivery to the specific mill which will use them to roll thousands of tons of structural steel.
