Protozoa in the rhizosphere and on the root surface 1

This video was recorded by Dr John Darbyshire, a soil microbiologist in Scotland and Honorary Fellow of the James Hutton Institute. It shows the behaviour of various kinds of protozoa in the rhizosphere (the thin layer of soil surrounding plant roots) and on the surface of plant roots. • Since posting this video it has been discovered that the giant amoeba is wrongly described in the commentary as Arachnula sp. This giant amoeba is more likely to resemble the network-forming amoebae described by Berney et al. (2015) Protist 166, 291-295. http://www.hutton.ac.uk
