Have you had Bara Brith before? • Bara Brith is a tea cake from Wales. It translates to Speckled Bread in English. Although everyone still calls it Bara Brith. In order to make bara brith, you need to soak the fruit overnight in tea, so that's a very special kind of cake. As I don't have the right amount of raisins, so I put something different in it! What do you think I put in my bara brith? Turmeric? Ginger? Galangal? or... ??? • Watch this video to find out! • If you want to make some for yourself, here I share the recipe to make bara brith: • Ingredients: • 1 pound/450 grams dried fruit (mixed) • 2/3 pint/300 milliliters cold tea • 2 tablespoons marmalade • 1 egg (free-range, beaten) • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (soft) • 1 teaspoon mixed spice • 1 pound/450 grams self-rising flour • How to make: • 1. Put the dried fruit in a bowl and pour over the tea. Leave to soak overnight in the tea. • 2. Next day, put the other ingredients (marmalade, egg, brown sugar, mixed spice and self-rising flour) into the soaked fruit (no need to drain the tea). Blend well together. • 3. Spoon into a greased 900 gram loaf tin and bake in a warm oven 170 C/ 325 F/ Gas 3 for 1 3/4 hours, or until the center is cooked through. • 4.
