Making Hydrazine Iodide and Something Else

In this video I will show you how to make hydrazine iodide from hydrazine monohydrate and elemental iodine. I always wanted to try this reaction because of the beautiful colour change from brown to clear and because you can make a lot of iodine vanish with a tiny amount of hydrazine. This reaction produces hydroiodic acid as an intermediate product. We used a massive excess of hydrazine monohydrate but without it and under reflux this can be used to make fairly pure hydroiodic acid according to a few patents online.
