Vasilina Orlova First Impressions from EMDR as a Learner

Hi friends! My new video is devoted to my first impression from eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) as a learner of this technique who will be implementing it as part of my toolkit during my practicum starting in the fall of 2024 as a mental health counselor. EMDR is a type of therapeutic modality in which the practitioner walks a person through the recollection and reprocessing of the traumatic experience while overloading their sensory guards. You can see the example of EMDR in practice in this video:    • EMDR Therapy Demonstration: Phases 1-8   , recorded by an experienced practitioner who guides a person through the recollection, effectively re-visitation of her trauma. • The state that the person is in during the EMDR session is resembling the state of the trance. Trance in turn is evocative of hypnosis. As a person who grew up in the late Soviet Union, I have a lot of reservations about all sorts of mental interventions, thanks to Kashpirovsky, Chumak, and other magician healers who used to charge water in water jars on large audiences. The audiences would always have some exultant members testifying that the water indeed possesses healing qualities because a speaker from TV said so. However, as you might know, hypnosis is also still successfully used as a modality and a successful intervention; one could argue that hypnosis does not have a lot in common with those modes of self-presentation that we observed from mentioned imposing men. • Much as EMDR might seem unclear, it would appear that EMDR is working and is effective, as demonstrated by people availing themselves to the EMDR sessions who would rate their traumatic experiences on the higher end of the scale before the session and on the lower end of the scale after the session. Contemporary therapists consider EMDR to be an evidenced-based modality. The mechanism of how and why the EMDR is working, with its finger movements, tapping, and lights, might be not entirely clear, but if the result is less suffering in the people then we might want to do more of it. I am hoping you are having a good day, and if you want to get in touch with me, I am here: https://tl.page/vasilina-or. I do coaching for unlocking creativity in writing and art, decluttering, breakup, and academia (all the interrelated issues, as you see). To be clear, I will not be employing EMDR in my coaching sessions, of course; I am looking forward to learning EMDR and implementing it with my counseling clients. I hope you are having a great day! • #EMDR #memory #trauma #therapy #coaching
