This new development enables funeral homes to offer families two ways to receive remains after cremation: as cremated remains or solidified remains. This process can be done for human cremated remains as well as pet cremations. • One fascinating result is the natural colors that result in the stones. They can range from pure white, to a light blue or green hue, to even a brown or coffee-colored stone. • The cremated remains are cleaned of any foreign contaminants and refined into a powder. The solidification process is similar to making ceramics. The remains are mixed into a clay-like material, with which the stones are formed. The stones are fired in a kiln, then cleaned and polished. They are delivered in a beautiful wooden box. • Parting Stone is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The technology to turn the granular cremated remains into solidified form was created in partnership with Los Alamos Laboratory. The company launched the service to the funeral industry in October 2019. At least 300 funeral homes now offer this service.
