Peter went from denying Christ to dying for Him—talk about a dramatic turnaround! Peter, once known for denying Jesus, transformed into a bold leader of the early church. Filled with the Holy Spirit, he preached passionately, healed the sick, and championed the inclusion of Gentiles into the faith. Despite facing fierce persecution, including a martyr's death by crucifixion upside down, Peter's unwavering devotion and leadership laid a foundation for Christianity that endures through the ages. His transformation reminds us that with courage and conviction, we can turn our past struggles into powerful testimonies of hope and redemption. • #PeterTheApostle #FaithJourney #ChristianInspiration #BibleStories #SpiritualGrowth #ApostlePeter #OvercomingChallenges #FaithAndRedemption #EarlyChurchHistory #InspirationalFaith • 🗣️ SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL: ‪@awakeningmediaco‬ • ==================== • 🎙️ VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: • What happened to the Apostle Peter? Well, Peter was always one of the closest disciples to Jesus, right? Peter, James, and John, famously, it's those three that are in Jesus's inner circle. So when Jesus ascends into heaven, it's no surprise that Peter's going to be the one to emerge as an early leader of the church. We see how in Acts chapter 2, when the baptism of the Holy Spirit comes on the disciples, Peter is the one to emerge to explain it and talk about what the baptism of the Holy Spirit is, to talk about what Jesus accomplished on the cross. the rest of the book of Acts. • Yeah, and what were some of the things the Bible says that he did? Well, we'll see that Peter will heal the lame man, so you can see that Peter isn't just a great preacher, but he's someone who acts in faith and God uses him supernaturally. We see how Tabitha is raised from the dead. And we see that God is speaking to Peter, revealing to him that his plan is even bigger than just Jerusalem and just the Jewish people. God shows Peter that the Gentiles are going to be saved, the unclean people that the Jews aren't really supposed to be associated with. So Peter's going to become an early advocate for bringing the gospel to the Gentiles. • In fact, one of the first Gentile converts will be Cornelius, a Roman. Acts chapter 15, when the church gathers together to figure out, what do we do with these Gentile Christians? You know, like, we're all Jews and they're Gentiles. Are they expected to now abide by the same dietary laws, abide by the Sabbath? Are they supposed to be circumcised? These are all questions that they were trying to figure out. And there were some that were saying, yeah, of course they should. If they're going to be godly people, they need to obey the Old Testament law. But Peter was in that camp that was saying, no, no, it's not going to be the law that saves us. It's going to be Jesus. So he's the advocate for not just bringing the gospel to the Gentiles, but also seeing that the Gentiles will be saved through Jesus and not through the law. • Didn't he also write books of the Bible, write first and second Peter? Peter is not just a character in the Bible, but he writes two books of the Bible, first Peter and second Peter. And these are foundational books that really will help the church to endure in times of persecution. Peter knows what it's like to be persecuted. So he's writing from a place of experience, but he's writing to encourage them to hold fast. And these two epistles are so special because they speak about things like church leadership. What should that look like? He's speaking about Christian virtues. What does it mean to live for Christ? He's warning against some of the heresies that were starting to emerge even in the early church. But he was also giving them hope, hope that Jesus was going to return. There's parts of his book that are eschatological, or he's looking at the end times and the return of Christ. • Outside of what we see in Scripture, what do we know happened to Peter? Well, we don't see his death in the Bible. The Book of Acts accounts his ministry, his preaching, his work, but it doesn't give us a picture as to how he dies. For that, we have to go to church tradition. • The Emperor Nero is going to persecute the church, and he's going to target people like Peter. And he orders that Christians be persecuted. Peter is to be crucified, but Peter is famous for not wanting to be crucified in the same fashion that Jesus was because he felt that he wasn't worthy of it. So Peter requests that he be crucified upside down. And that was something that Emperor Nero or the Roman guards in charge of his execution were more than happy to oblige. So Peter dies a martyr, a faithful martyr like many of the other disciples will in the early church. It is interesting that the man who denied Christ three times now kind of goes on this journey, right? Yes. To me, I see that maybe it was the resurrection. faithful as a servant and preacher of the gospel till his dying breath.
