Cephalosporins are beta lactam antibiotics that are bacteriocidal in nature through their ability to inhibit cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. They are used for a variety of different infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections and meningitis. Side effects of cephalosporin use include skin rash, itching, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea among others.
