The Hardergrat Ridge trail won’t disappoint! It’s right next to Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen Valley, which are some of the best places to visit in Switzerland! In today's episode we visit the Augstmatthorn, Suggiture, and Harder Kulm. But before we talk about the views, let’s talk about how to start this hike. • Most people ride up the Harder Kulm funicular, then hike 3 hours up through the woods for the amazing ridgeline views. But then you’re faced with 2 tough choices: • 1. Hike 3 hours back down through the woods to Harder Kulm. • 2. Or hike down the steep backside of the ridge, then walk an additional 1.5 hours on the road to the tiny village of Habkern, and then catch a bus to Interlaken which only comes once an hour. • We didn’t like either of those choices, so we tried something else! • 1. Ride a bus from Interlaken to Habkern. • 2. Take a hotel shuttle bus from Habkern to Lombachalp. • 3. Hike up from Lombachalp to the Hardergrat, Augstmatthorn, and Suggiture. • 4. Hike 2-3 hours downhill through the trees to Harder Kulm. (Bonus: You can refuel at the Panorama Restaurant, and get spectacular views of Interlaken, Lake Brienz, and Lake Thun from the impressive Two Lakes Bridge!) • 5. Ride the Harder Kulm funicular back down to Interlaken, Switzerland, which runs at least every 30 minutes. • • —— • // Helpful notes about hiking in Switzerland // • --Switzerland hiking trails are well marked with locations, distance, and approximate length of time, but you should bring along a map just in case. (We use the SwissTopo app when we hike in Switzerland!) • --Switzerland weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers. We always carry our rain jacket and a heavier coat, plus a hat and sunscreen. • --You’re going to catch amazing views of Lake Brienz on this hike.
