EyeSmart dermatochalasis video. Dermatochalasis refers to redundancy of eyelid skin and is often associated with orbital fat protrusion or prolapse (steatoblepharon). Though more common in older patients, dermatochalasis can also occur in middle-aged people, particularly if a familial predisposition exists. Dermatochalasis of the upper eyelids is often associated with an indistinct or lower-than-normal eyelid crease.
