While incarcerated, he embraced physical training and began studying it’s history. After his release, he overcame heroin addiction and became obsessed with the study of strength and hand to hand combat. He is now a gold medal grappler, ultramarathon runner, weightlifter, professional strength coach, certified tactical conditioning specialist and mountain bear hunter. • We are experts in providing strength, conditioning, nutrition and recovery for the fighting man. Our members have won multiple gold medals and championship titles in combat sports and stayed safe in war zones and hostile environments around the globe. You can find our methods in use from the South Pacific to the Bering Sea, composed solely of techniques proven by both cutting edge science and generations of use on the front lines. • If you are interested in training programs designed specifically for the fighting man, articles on physical culture and history, coaching, instructional material or reconstructions of historic training routines, come join The Hunt.  • All are welcome. • — • On The Running Tribe Who Takes Psychedelics and Invented Barefoot Shoes. • Living in widely scattered settlements in Northern Mexico, the Rarámuri are considered the best endurance runners on the planet. They frequently run up to 200 miles at a time over mountains and canyons at high elevation for the sake of communicating with other villages, hunting or transportation. When running they wear only their traditional sandals, known as ‘Huaraches’ (swipe left for a picture) which has inspired a good deal of scientific study, academic debate and birthed an entire market of “Barefoot shoes”. • However distance running isn’t just a daily chore for the Raramuri: it’s also a spiritual pursuit, a sport and a method for hunting and waging war. Common sporting events include ‘Rarajipari’, relay race where balls are kicked, which can last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days without break. And while they commonly hunt with the bow and arrow, the Rarámuri also practice persistence hunting: the practice of pursuing prey over prolonged time and distance until it collapses from exhaustion, usually deer and turkey. • Their diet is built around traditional staples of corn, bean, and squash, with deer, turkey, squirrel and fish as primary protein sources. They make an ‘energy drink’ from chia seeds, and corn beer flavored with herbs, known as ‘Tesgüino’, is a cultural staple at rain fiestas, harvest ceremonies and races. The tribe also grows tobacco and uses the psychedelic peyote cactus as a spiritual guide, said in legend to have been shown to the people by a blue deer. • The Rarámuri were one of the few tribes never conquered by the Spanish nor were they converted to Catholicism, mounting fierce resistance from their home high in the inaccessible mountains. Centuries later, revolutionary Pancho Villa would use Rarámuri scouts. However modern threats to the tribe include being forced to act as drug runners for cartels, who take advantage of their long distance running abilities, as well as water contamination from mining (noted as early as 1556) and deforestation from illegal logging. • #running #fitness #ultrarunning
