Welcome to Dean of Doom, the show where we give grades to classic and contemporary Doom wads. Why? Because ranking things is fun. Today’s episode will be dedicated to Community Chest 2, a megawad released in 2004, one year after the first one. I know what you’re thinking. Why would you review the sequel before the original, MtPain? I have four reasons. 1) I played this one first. 2) Community Chest 1 is...not so good. 3) Community Chest maps typically have nothing in common except the year they were released. Each entry in the series is cobbled together from Doomworld submissions, often showcasing new designers, contemporaneous fads in mapping, and held together by a handful of high-profile contributions from the Doom community’s old guard. TLDR: Community Chest 2 is as good a place to start as any. Finally, there’s one particular map in CC2 I really want to talk about.
