Anyone that metal detects remembers the oldest coin they’ve found. They’ll remember exactly where they found it too, almost within inches of where the hole they dug was. I remember finding my first old coin way back when I first started detecting. It was an 1898 Indian head cent and you could have seen the hair standing up on my arms from a football field away. Throughout the years I would go on to break my record for oldest coin over and over again. Each time I did I would stare proudly at my new record holder and think to myself, “this is gonna be a tough one to beat”. • Well fast forward to today and we’re back detecting a new section of our incredibly old Hammered Cob field. A field that has already broken the all-time record for oldest coin, not only for me, but for every single one of us! But today…, oh man today!
