As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. • I decided to install cable railing for the deck rebuild project for a few reasons. First, I thought the stainless steel railing would look great. Second I thought the installation would be much simpler then installing a traditional wood railing. Third, the cable railing would be lighter in weight compared to a wood railing. Considering the cantilever construction of this deck I figured keeping it as light as possible would be a best practice approach. • The cable railing was easy and straight forward to install on the deck. The main consideration when using this system was to make sure the cable spans are less then 48 inches. So I installed 4x4 deck rail post less then 4 feet apart first. Then I used the template tool to mark the spacing of my cable on the post. From that point on I installed the cable fasteners, attached and secured the cables, and then tensioned the cables to an appropriate stiffness. • In this video I show the cable rail installation using lag screw cable connectors as well as bolt cable connectors that also serve as tensioners.
