A little chat about Pike Fishing Rods. • When I started fishing for Pike I was about 11 or 12 I fished as a junior in a local Pike match winter league on Lough Muck outside Omagh I fished for the Elpaso Bar team it was a introduction to Pike fishing. • It taught me some good things and I seen some things that even then I knew were not acceptable but it's easy to look back at fishing in the 1990s and pick faults in the tactics the gear used and the general attitudes to Pike. • Without those early days I'd not have go into Pike fishing, today Pike is my passion I love fishing for them they are the apex predator in NI and the ROI this is a brief discussion about the progression of the fishing gear I used how I started and where I am right now. • Dave lumb rods:- • http://www.dlst.co.uk/ • The first Pike rod I ever bought was a Shakespeare Persuit Pike Rod a 12' 3lb tc rod I think at the time it was £60 or £70 I scraped together the pennies to buy three of them and I still have two of them today I've used them as marker and spod rods. • Then I picked up some Greys Prodigy and Prowla rods that I still have and if your fishing with me these are my spares so you will get these to use, if I had to go back to using these I'd have no problem doing so. I have two models the Prodigy is a 12' 3lb tc rod and the Prowla is a 12' 3.5lb tc rod. Like I say excellent rods and not super expensive either. • Now I have Dave Lumb BB350 D-3 rods these are custom built to my specifications. These are the rods I'm fully intending to use for the rest of my days of Pike Fishing. • The BB350 is a 12' 3.5lb tc rod and its a pleasure to play fish on great casting tool and I can put on a 4oz lead and a bait then launch it to the horizons or I can flick the same bait out into the margins and if the Pike picks it up I'm able to set the hook and play the fish to the net without fear of pulling the hooks out the fishes mouth. • The D-3 is a 13' 4lb tc rod its a big bait long range tool. I can drop baits out at distance with a baitboat then knowing full well when it comes to setting the hooks and wrestling a big old Esox to the bank. • Can you tell I'm getting excited for this year's Pike fishing season.
