Learn how to make sparkling, magical aurora borealis bubble bath powder! You don’t have to follow this recipe exactly to get great results. • EASY POUR BUBBLE BATH POWDER RECIPE: • 1/2 cup baking soda • 1/2 cup citric acid • 1/2 cup Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, SLSa (or a different fine powder surfactant) • 40 milliliters fragrance • 5 milliliters emulsifier • 25 milliliters liquid surfactant [I used cocamidopropyl betaine] • 25 milliliters alcohol • NOTES: Citric acid is important as it reacts with the baking soda when wet, which in turn gives the mix a hard and course texture. Plus, without it, the powder is almost impossible to dry. You can add more citric acid to dry it quicker for a better texture. Alternate Bubble Makers: sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), or sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI), or sodium coco sulfate (SCS). • Liquid is added mainly to activate the mixture so it puffs up. However, cocamidopropyl betaine enhances the bubble bath as it's a bubble booster, foam stabilizer, to make bubbles last longer. And the alcohol aids in a dry, coarse, rough texture (which is best for pouring). ***If you substitute liquid ingredients, try to minimize heavy liquids that don't dry well, like carrier oil, melted butter, polysorbates, fragrance oil, etc. Instead, use light liquids that dry well, like water, alcohol, or liquid surfactants. Emulsifiers emulsify oils (like fragrance oil) with water and also mix micas with water. I used Polysorbate 80 and PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil because it’s an emulsifier also a foam booster. • DIRECTIONS: • Sieve dry ingredients together. Mix wet ingredients together separately. Mix wet and dry ingredients together well. Let mixture sit for 15 minutes so it puffs up then deflates. Lay the mixture on paper. Break it up and spread it out as much as possible so it dries quicker. • NOTE: You can make the powder and just let it sit there until its completely dry OR you can speed up drying time by periodically breaking up chunks throughout the process*. • Dry 24 hours, break up clumps, lay flat, then dry it more until you can sieve it (which takes a couple of days). Sieve it, lay it flat, let it dry fully (about 1-2 weeks). Once completely dry, sieve it once more. Then add an equal amount of dendritic salt as powder (EX: if you have 300 grams of powder, add 300 grams of dendritic salt). The salt makes the powder the perfect pouring consistency and ensures that it remains clump-free. Now for the really fun and creative part: choose a theme and customize the powder. Divide powder and add color powder and other decorations to each! Package bubble bath powder in a transparent jar. • **Do you enjoy my content? If yes, I'd love a cup of coffee!
