Born as Har Narayan Ojha in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Swami Karpatri emerged as one of the most revered saints of 20th-century India whose influence transcended sectarian differences between the numerous Hindu sampradayas. Karpatri Ji was renowned for his extreme asceticism, profound scholarship, and for his authoritative command over the cultural, philosophical, and spiritual dimensions of Sanatana Dharma. Author of numerous books on Hinduism in Sanskrit and Hindi, his was often regarded as the last word on Dharmic matters, earning him the honorific of Dharmasamrat. Beyond his contribution to the spiritual sphere, he represented the voice of traditionalism in the democratic politics of Modern India. He was at the forefront of crucial political battles on behalf of the ignored and marginalized constituency of practicing Hindus. He is remembered as a pioneer of the anti-cow-slaughter movement whose efforts led to the ban on the killing of cows in various states across the country.
