How to Paint Brass for Beginners EASY 5 Steps 10 minutes

Medium is Old Masters Maroger • Robert simmons filbert hog hair brushes and ampersand museum series gessoboard and Jack Richeson palette knife • My 5 Step Process: • Background color is Ivory Black and White • Tone is a light burnt umber thinned medium. • Step 1: Brass Color • Burnt Umber + Cadmium Yellow Deep or Medium • Brass color is in the yellow color hue family, but duller in saturation. • Fill in your brass color making sure you don't paint it too light or too dark in value. • Step 2: Reflections • One of the qualities of brass is its reflectivity. • Put any strong reflections that you see. • Step 3 : Add textures and highlights • Highlights on metal are very bright and strong, sharp edges and have more local color in them. Use a palette knife to get the wet paint to stick on top of wet paint and add texture. • Step 4: Shadows • Look for darker shadow shapes the describe which parts of the form are away from the light source. If the form is curved then curve the shape of your shadow. Don't forget a cast shadow underneath the object so it's not floating. • Step 5: Shimmer • Connect the lights gradually and soften some of the texture added by the palette knife.
