Soon to be graduating Raquel talks with Jim Twelves, Master of Teaching (Primary) Director, Alphacrucis College, about the teacher accreditation process in New South Wales, Australia. • There are 3 parts (WWC, NSW Teachers Institute and DEC): • 1. The working with children check (WWC): • a. Apply online here: http://www.kids.nsw.gov.au/Working-wi... • b. There is either paid (currently $80) or unpaid: the NSW Teachers Institute will accept the unpaid application for volunteers, with the expectation you will update when you start working. DEC (Department of Education and Communities) will not: your WWC must be for paid employees. • c. Your driving license is your primary form of ID. • d. DEC requires your WWC to be in the same name as all your other paperwork. • 2. This link covers NSW Teachers Institute and DEC: • a. http://www.dec.nsw.gov.au/about-us/ca... • b. There is a series of links to the NSW Teachers Institute -- apply online for an assessment of your qualifications. You then need to post certified copies of various documents: birth certificate, marriage certificate, licence, WWC, academic transcripts, etc. • c. There is an online application that needs to be completed, as you work through the application process you are able to view interview times. There is an interview centre at Blacktown. • ii. They send you confirmation and a link to a three page pdf (a supporting statement) that needs to be completed and taken to your interview http://www.teach.nsw.edu.au/grp/appli... • 3. The interview: • a. Very straight forward, • b. They view your supporting statement, which needs to include reports from prac placements • c. It seems to be a standard process where they ask you questions addressing the 7 elements of teaching. • d. I received an interim approval to teach within a few days, though they do say it could take up to several weeks.
