THE GERMAN DISH THAT MUST BE EATEN// Hello everyone, Since we are in lockdown here in England, we thought it might be a good idea to share one of our favourite German recipes that screams comfort food: 'Schales' which is a regional dish in Saarland. It takes a while in the oven but it's so lovely with homemade applesauce. We put the recipes down below in the info box and we hope you enjoy the video. Much love, Kirsten Joerg x • _____ • RECIPE 'SCHALES': • Ingredients • 2,5kg baking potatoes • 3 shallots • 3 eggs • about 5tbsp flour • salt pepper • olive oil • Method • Peel the potatoes, quarter them and then grate into a big bowl or pan. Grease your pan. Add the shallots, the eggs, the flour and the salt pepper. Mix everything together and bake in the oven at about 180-200 degrees Celsius for about 2 hours. Turn in between so you get a nice crust. • RECIPE 'APPLE SAUCE': • Ingredients • About 1,5kg apples (Braeburn are perfect) • 5tbsp brown sugar • 10tbsp water • 1 cinnamon stick • 1 vanilla pod • Method • Peel the apples and slice into quarters. Put into a saucepan, add the rest of the ingredients.
