The mechanisation of the Indian cavalry started in 1938. On 1 May that year, the 14th Prince of Wales's Own Scinde Horse became the first Indian regiment to shed its horses and convert to Vickers light tanks and Chevrolet armoured cars. By the end of 1940 all the Indian cavalry had been mechanised, receiving light tanks, armoured cars and trucks. • Part of the 'War Horse: Fact Fiction' exhibition running at the National Army Museum, London until March 2013. • Follow the National Army Museum on: • Facebook: / nationalarmymuseum • Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/NAM_London
