This open pie has its origins during World War II. The history dates back to the efforts of the land girls of the Second World War and the restrictions imposed on rationing. However, the origin of the name of this dish is unknown. It is believed that Homity pie is a local name made up by the people in Britain. This word doesn’t have a meaning in old and modern English. • Relatively cheap to make, very simple to produce and a wonderful combination of flavours and textures….we just loved it. • As usual everything I used will be listed below incase you want to give it a go. • Thanks for stopping by and until I see you next, take care x • -Cheryl • _____________________________________________________________________ • Everything I used (20cm/8 inch tin) Serves 5-6 • Pastry- • 125g (4.4oz) Plain flour • 125g (4.4oz) Wholemeal or rye flour • 1/2 Teaspoon of salt • 150g (5.2oz) Butter - cut into cubes • 1 Medium egg - beaten • Filling- • 500g (1lb/18oz) Floury potatoes such as King Edward or Maris Piper • 1 Tablespoon of butter 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil - for frying • 2 Onions - Sliced or finely diced • 1 Leek - Sliced • 2 Garlic cloves - Crushed • 100g (3.5oz) Baby spinach leaves • 175g (6oz) Mature cheddar cheese - grated • 2 Tablespoons fresh parsley - chopped • 250ml (9floz) Double or heavy cream • 1/2 Teaspoon ground nutmeg • Salt pepper to taste • • *Serve on it’s own, with a simple salad or fabulous with baked beans!* • ______________________________________________________________________ • CONTACT ME: • New P.O.
