You're going to get a nice, deep curve. You want to kick out with your heels. You want to kick up some powder. • If you're on the street, maybe you want to kick your board on a soda can. You want to use it to scrub off a little speed. • Whatever you need it for, you want to either go for a Heel Side Check or a Heel Side Slide. • A Heel Side Slide, much like a Toe Slide, is just a Heel Check except held out for a little longer. So you're going to be kicking out. You're going to be leaning back. Your arms are going to be out nice and wide. But most importantly, you want to make sure that your feet are nice and stuck to the board so that way you're not going to fall backward. • If you do fall backwards, just take your arm out, reach down to the ground, and you could probably end up doing like a Coleman or a Bert Slide and that will be just fine. • But make sure you're going at a safe enough speed that you feel comfortable to do a Toe Side or a Heel Side Check, so that way you don't get hurt in the process. • It's very important again, just like a Toe Side Check or a Slide, that you put your weight on your front foot and keep it light on the back foot so you're able to kind of kick out and make sure you have enough weight on your heels, though, that you can actually push the board out. • Now again, much like Toe Slides, you want to have your heel over the edge. Some people like on the board. You may want to lift up your toes a little bit, but most people like to keep their foot entirely planted on the board, ideally directly over the bolts on the back, but if you'd like to do a bit of a Blunt Slide, there's nothing wrong with picking up the front of your board and going for a Blunt Slide. • So those are some pointers on how to do a Heel Side Check.
