The pension scam process is usually identical - as all existing victims will readily confirm. A compelling pitch by a plausible salesman (in reality a well-trained fraudster), which glosses over the considerable risks and disadvantages of transferring a safe, well-managed UK pension. The victim will become putty in the fraudster's hands as the lies easily convince the client. The poor victim is about to become penniless and will be facing poverty and possibly contemplating suicide. • Much of this financial crime is facilitated - and handsomely rewarded - by the death offices such as Quilter International, Utmost International, RL360, Friends Provident International, SEB and Hansard. Quilter used to be called Old Mutual International, and before that Skandia. Utmost used to be called Generali. Different names - but the same fraud; the payment of secret or half-secret commissions. • Interestingly, one massive pension investment fraud involved Store First store pods - £230 million of which is now virtually worthless. The investments were sold fraudulently to well over 2,000 victims - through bogus occupational schemes or SIPPS such as Carey (Options) or Berkeley Burke (Hartley). Unlicensed scammers such as Country Land Property run by Terrence Wright and Jackson Francis run by Stuart Chapman-Clarke and Ben Fox promoted the toxic and unsuitable store pod investments in return for between 30% and 46% commission. But these scammers did not use insurance bonds - so they missed out on the extra 7%. • But all these commissions are illegal. No commission should ever be paid secretly. Or half-secretly. These illegal commissions are built into the price of the investment product. So victims who bought a Store First store pod for their pension, were paying way more than the pod was worth. And the SIPPs providers were fully aware of this, but allowed the investments anyway. • The web of scams and scammers was never broken. None of the scammers was ever jailed.
