The new release dives deep into the duos formative musical influences, blending their signature techy beats with an unmistakable nod to the bands and electronic acts that shaped their sound. Since bursting onto the scene, Matrefakt have quickly made a statement with releases on top-tier labels like Shall Not Fade, Warehouse Music, Trick, Sous Music, and More. Renowned for their groovy, tech-driven productions, the duos music pays homage to the heroes of the past while fearlessly pushing things forward. With the Sugar Breakfast EP, Matrefakt unashamedly celebrate the indie and electronic pioneers that inspired them to create their future-funk sound. The new EP takes inspiration from our love of indie music growing up, listening to bands like Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons Kasabian, then being further inspired by the Chemical Brothers Daft Punk as we got more into electronic music, Matrefakt explain. The Sugar Breakfast EP is a four-track journey galvanised by its block rockin beats. It kicks off with the pounding drums and razor-sharp guitars of Over Drive, setting the stage for the title track. Sugar Breakfast serves up no saccharine fare or processed beats, with its electro-clash riff delivering a punch straight to the tastebuds. On the flip side, The Chase takes listeners on a funky ride with its slap-bass grooves and thumping keys, before the EP closes out with the relentless Detroit-inspired pulse of Roll One.
