MASSIVE TERMITE QUEEN

I found this massive termite queen under a rock. It is not very common to see termite's queens as the colonies are usually huge, but this one was enjoying the first warm days of the year right under this rock. Termite queens are real egg-producing machines able to produce from 1,500 to 80,000 eggs a day (Kaib et al 2001) ! You can also spot the king at the beginning of the video. It usually stays right next to the queen. • #termite #Australia #termites • https://www.myrmecofourmis.fr/ • references • Kaib, M., Hacker, M., Brandl, R. (2001).
