(7 Jun 2017) LEAD IN : • Visitors to CES Asia in Shanghai are getting a glimpse of tomorrow with an array of future technology on show. • From delivery drones to self-driving cars, the emphasis is on consumer tech to make our lives easier. • STORYLINE • Meet Pebble... an AI home companion device. • Making itself at home in a space vehicle simulator at CES Asia in Shanghai. • Rokid Corp., was awarded the CES Innovation Awards in Las Vegas, six months ago and is now meeting some Chinese consumers. • Rokid Pebble can engage with other devices to organise household chores and provide entertainment and education, responding to voice commands. • Li Yuanpeng, the company's product manager, says Pebble is a good example of how AI looks like in the future. • AI makes our life simpler. AI is replacing human beings in more fields. It saves humans' labour, so we can do more creative work. • CES Asia is an opportunity for Chinese audiences to discover the latest developments in technology and offers a platform for Chinese technology companies to showcase their products. • Huawei officially launched their MateBook X laptop here with prices ranging from 6,988 yuan to 9,988 yuan. • John T. Kelly, the senior director of CES Asia, says China is a growing tech hub : • Chinese companies continue to grow and grow in more and more importance. And they are creating partnership with western partners with Western companies to really further their technology. So we are seeing the development of technology advance rapidly. And China is shifting from more of a manufacturing based society to an innovation based society. I think that's been part of the most recent Five Year Plan. That's also part of the reasons of the recent Belt and Road strategy that was implemented by President Xi a few weeks ago. So it's very exciting what's going on here in China. And that's why we are here today. • Chinese President Xi Jinping recently expressed ambitious hopes for Asian and European governments to work more closely on finance, law enforcement and a broad range of other issues, as leaders from 30 nations issued a joint endorsement of a Beijing-led trade initiative. • The Belt and Road project is China's biggest foreign initiative to date as Beijing looks for global stature to match its economic success. • Online retailer JD.com is devising a drone delivery system, the company already uses drones in delivery, warehouse monitoring and inspection. • The monitoring drone has a speed of up to 15.2 m/s and a flight time of 30 minutes, enough to cover the entire warehouse. • Another Chinese internet giant Baidu, has its eyes on the auto market. • Baidu signed a partnership agreement with Bosch and Continental to work on autonomous driving. The two German companies will mainly provide tech support in hardware system while Baidu contributes in computer intelligence. • BMW is also at CES Asia.
