Someone at the forums said that this game was having many graphical glitches. As far as I've seen, only xBRz causes that black dirt around some sprites, and there's some small triangles flickering, which are PlayStation exclusives. There are some minor cuts in some character sprites during some cutscenes, but I think it's due to Pete'sOGL2 video plugin botched aspect ratio calculation. I've never played this game extensively before, so I wouldn't know the small differences. • This game doesn't need much to run with PGXP. Memory only mode works well with the 3D models and scenarios, but character sprites seem to shake sometimes during camera changes, maybe because PGXP automatically makes 2D textures low precision . Mem + CPU logic mode alleviates that shaking, but it causes other glitches, like stretching textures. • The video configs I used to record are: 960x720@60p, ResHack X/Y 3, xBRz x3, deposterize true, fullscreen filter and FXAA shader. I didn' use the widescreen hack, because although the world is 3D, the characters are sprites, so they'll become stretched. • Only the start menu seems to run at 60 FPS, while the game runs at 30 FPS. Due to using xBRz, framebuffer effects will slowdown, but the effects of this game seems to be quite optimized, I guess, but I haven't gone far to see if it has big effects, like the Final Fantasy titles. But, PGXP might also cause small slowdowns during some scenes, but CPU overclock x1.25 seems to help. • Overall, Breath of Fire IV is very playable with PGXP, but there's also a PC version, that is also very good, so I don't know which one to playthrough with XD. • PCSXR-PGXP by iCatButler.
