Taiwan Railways inaugurates new electric locomotive

Taiwan Railways introduced the Toshiba E500, a new generation of electric locomotives, at Qidu Station in Keelung on Sept. 30 as part of a 10-year plan to replace nearly 100 locomotives. Most of the new units (68) will be the E500, which will improve punctuality for express services on Ziqiang and Chuguang class trains. The remaining locomotives, such as the Stadler Rail R200, will be used for freight, military transport, and repair work. Certified by Germany’s DEKRA, the E500 will gradually replace older GE and E1000 models.
