We travel through glacial carved valleys with cascading waterfalls which culminate in a cruise on New Zealand’s most famous Fjord, Milford Sound. • Chapters: • Introduction 0:00 • Te Anau 1:19 • We start off in the Southland town of Te Anau and learn about its wetland ecosystem in a reserve located beneath a mountain sacred to the Maori people. We continue on the the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary where we visit the endangered Takahe before heading out on the road via Te Anau Downs to Fiordland. • Egglington Valley/Mirror Lakes 3:59 • Entering into Fiordland National Park we head into the wide open Egglington Valley and onto the superb reflective mirror lakes along with its forested birdlife. • Lake Gunn 6:11 • We stop at the beautiful Lake Gunn where we sight Kea’s (alpine parrot), Kaka’s (arboreal parrot), the Kereru (wood pigeon) and watch jumping trout. • Hollyford Valley 9:39 • Here we learn about the plate tectonic that form the southern alps and learn about the once great glaciers that sculpted these valleys of epic grandeur. Within the alpine valley we interact with the worlds only alpine parrot, the Kea. • The Homer Tunnel to Milford Sound 13:08 • From the Homer Saddle we drive through this 1.2km historic tunnel to the breathtaking Cleddau Valley where we are intercepted by more Kea. We descend down to Milford Sound via Mt Tutoko, the highest mountain in Fiordland. • Cruise Milford 18:24 • We board our Cruise within the Fjord as we venture out to the Tasman Sea and back. We spot a colony of New Zealand Fur Seals lazing about and splashing around before we get wet ourselves under a 155m waterfall known as Stirling Falls. • The legend of Piopiotahi/Milford Sound 22:32 • We learn the Maori legend about the 14 Fjords of Fiordland including Piopiotahi or Milford Sound. This concludes our journey to a place considered one of the natural wonders of the world!
