The Congress hit out at the ruling party on Saturday saying the Modi government is trying to do reforms in certain laws and acts of wildlife protection that are not in favour of tribal welfare. Addressing a press conference, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the President of National Commission ST, himself wrote a letter to the Union Minister for Environment opposing these reforms. He also showed the letter in the press conference. Jairam lashed out at the BJP saying they want liberalisation of laws and privatisation of degraded forests. Indira Gandhi ji always conveyed the message that there should be a balance between development and the environment, he added. Opposing the liberalisation , the leader said laws must be strictly implemented and organisations must be empowered to save the environment from degrading further. We can resolve the biggest issue of climate change not by words but by our actions. We need to follow the laws, said Jairam Ramesh. Pictures of Indira Gandhi were displayed in the press conference as it has been 50 years since the Project Tiger and Chipko movement. • #jairamramesh #bjp #narendramodi #bjpvscongress #pmmodi #indiannationalcongress • Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu • For daily news updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India • Facebook: • / timesofindia • Instagram: • / timesofindia • Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 • Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis • Facebook: • / timesofindiaplus • Twitter: • / toiplus • Instagram: • / toi_plus
