For some people, presenting an image is more important than embracing their true state of affairs. So the type of house that one lives in, the size of the car driven and the brand of clothes worn while ‘swimming in debt’ and relying on others is their lived reality. This may not be a bad thing. But if this approach is not properly monitored, it can become a way of life that is burdensome for their rescuers or can lead to deviant behaviour. • Our Lord warns us about our obsession with paying attention to the outside and not giving the same attention to the inside of our hearts that is filled with evil (Lk. 11:37-41). We can be deceptive with the image of smiling with others and looking holy in Church. But the back-stabbing and power politics based on egotistical agendas show the real heart. Ask the Lord for true and clean hearts that will cause us to present His image to all. • Saving Lord, Your word tells us that You look at our hearts and know our authentic selves. May we come to understand that our spiritual journey is about learning how to align our ‘outside and inside’ to the values of Your kingdom so that can be a people in whom You are well pleased.
