The female is grey (western subspecies) to grey-brown (eastern subspecies) overall except for the orange-red lower rump and tail. • It avoids continuous forests, inhabits rocky biotopes of various kinds or various human structures such as castles, walls, houses, barns and cottages. • They feed on insects, their larvae, pupae, spiders and bees.
