#Causes Of Heart Enlargement #heart enlargement #cardiomegaly • Causes of Heart Enlargement. • An enlarged heart is medically known as cardiomegaly. Any disease that makes your heart work harder to pump blood through your body can cause an enlarged heart. • Some of the common causes of the enlarged heart include: • 1. Ischemic heart disease. • The coronary arteries that are responsible for supplying blood to the heart, become narrow as a result of the accumulation of cholesterol deposits in them causing it to enlarge due to the extra pressure. • 2. High blood pressure. • High blood pressure makes the heart more stressed causing it to push itself harder to supply the blood to the entire body, which can often lead to the thickening and stiffening of the heart muscles. • 3. Heart Failure. • When the muscles of the heart weaken, leading to thickening, stiffening, and enlargement of the heart, this causes impairment in the function and structure of the heart, most often leading to heart failure, resulting in death. • 4. Blood clots and blocked arteries. • Any blockage in the circulatory system can potentially create problems, usually as a stroke, or embolism when the clot works free and travels to the brain or lungs and potentially causing death. • 5. Congenital deformities and other genetic conditions. • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an inherited disorder that results in a thickened wall of the heart, that’s a cause of cardiomegaly. • 6. Pericardial effusion. • An accumulation of fluid around the heart from inflammation or disease can lead to increased pressure on the heart. In response to this, the heart may enlarge and become weaker. • 7. Myocarditis. • This inflammatory condition can constrict the heart’s ability to pump blood. Often caused by a viral infection. It may also result from certain medications. • 8. Infections. • Bacterial or viral infections of the heart and the tissue surrounding the heart can also cause inflammation and swelling of the heart muscle, leading to cardiomegaly. • 9. Alcohol and Cocaine Abuse. • The intake of these substances affects the cardiovascular system of the body, putting one under the risk of problems like arrhythmia and high blood pressure. Both these conditions cause an increase in the size of the heart. • 10. Anemia. • Anemia is a condition in which there is a low count of healthy red blood cells in the body. The lack of oxygen would cause the heart to pump harder. If the condition is left untreated, the size of the heart may increase. • 11. Hemochromatosis. • This is a disorder in which the body absorbs an excessively high amount of iron including the vital organs, such as the heart. This disorder can either be genetic or acquired. The buildup of iron in the heart can lead to heart enlargement. • 12. Pulmonary Hypertension. • Pulmonary hypertension is a form of high blood pressure that affects the artery connecting the heart and lungs. This may cause the blood vessels of the arteries to thicken and constrict, thereby adding pressure on the heart, causing enlargement. • 13. Amyloidosis. • Amyloidosis is a rare disease in which the body ends up absorbing a high amount of protein, causing protein buildup in various parts of the body, including the heart. This causes the capacity to pump the blood reduces, resulting in the inadequate supply to the body, forcing the heart to exert, causing enlargement. • 14. Heart Valve Disease. • Our heart contains 4 valves located at the exit of each of the 4 chambers. If there is an impairment in any of the 4 valves, one develops heart valve disease. As the blood flow is affected, it may cause the heart to enlarge. • 15. Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism. • The thyroid is needed by the body to regulate its metabolism, and to aid proper functioning of the muscles, including the heart muscles. Any disorder in this hormone may cause heart enlargement. • For more information on Heart Enlargement, check out the other videos in the playlist below. • Playlist: Heart Enlargement === https://bit.ly/3lC6kwu • Playlist: Aortic Valve Calcification === https://bit.ly/3b5U2Yx • Playlist: High Blood Pressure === https://bit.ly/2D1IkBC • Playlist: Healthy Body System === https://bit.ly/2QmKCyd • ============================== • Join me on Youtube: • Kim Lee Health Tips = https://bit.ly/2E1GjWK • Save Your Health = https://bit.ly/2OkaUnq • Weight Loss Tips = https://bit.ly/3cEXg8c • ================================ • I hope you have enjoyed the video.
