Why Mawsynram Gets Highest Rain On Earth | Rain Capital of world | Wettest place on Earth. • Located in beautiful and mesmerizing state of Meghalaya, Mawsynram receives an astonishing annual average rainfall of about 467 inches (11,871 millimeters), surpassing even the neighboring village of Cherrapunji, which was previously considered the wettest place on Earth. This incredible volume of rain is primarily due to the region's unique geographical location and climatic conditions. Located in the Khasi Hills, Mawsynram is positioned to receive the full brunt of the monsoon winds that blow in from the Bay of Bengal. As these moisture-laden winds ascend the hills, they cool and condense, resulting in heavy and persistent rainfall. • The Southwest Monsoon, which typically spans from June to September, brings moisture-laden winds from the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon winds do'nt lose their complete moisture in Bangladesh. As these winds reach the Khasi Hills, where Mawsynram is situated, they are forced to ascend due to the topography. This orographic lift causes the air to cool and condense, resulting in intense and persistent rainfall. The geography of Mawsynram, with its high elevation and steep terrain, amplifies this effect, leading to the area's record-breaking precipitation. • Despite this abundance of rainfall, Meghalaya faces significant water shortages. The region's challenging terrain causes most of the rainwater to quickly run off into rivers and streams, leaving little opportunity for it to be absorbed into the ground and replenish groundwater reserves. Additionally, the heavy rains are highly seasonal, leading to prolonged dry periods that exacerbate water scarcity. • The state's water management infrastructure struggles to cope with these challenges. Inadequate storage facilities, inefficient water distribution systems, and lack of sustainable water harvesting techniques contribute to the water crisis. Many rural communities rely on springs and streams that dry up during the dry season, leaving them without access to safe drinking water. • TO tackle this issue, government of Meghalaya is creating more than 1000 reservoirs and has provided more than 6 lakhs tap water connections all across Meghalaya. Due to this outstanding performance, Meghalaya has been awarded best state under Jal Jeevan Mission, flagship programe of government of India. • Efforts are underway to address these issues through improved water conservation methods, better infrastructure, and community awareness programs. However, overcoming the paradox of water abundance and scarcity remains a complex challenge for Meghalaya. • But during all these ups and downs the citizens of Meghalaya and Mawsynram has always shown a positive attitude towards nature and natural resources. If this attitude is followed by all people of world then all current issues pertaining to environment and climate can be easily solved. • This is also an important concept for UPSC and state civil services under subject of geography and is related to general studies 1 for all government exams. • 00:00 Indian Monsoon • 00:34 Meghalaya • 00:45 Mawsynram • 01:35 Geography of Mawsynram • 03:09 Water shortage • 03:50 Government efforts • 04:11 Conclusion • • #mawsynram #rainCapital #WettestPlaceOnEarth #meghalaya #nature #culture #monsoon #India #mawsynramrain #wettestplaceonearth #mawsynramthewettestplaceonearth #mawsynramindia #thewettestplaceonearth #mawsynramrainvideo #meghalayawettestplaceonearth, #mawsynramthewettestplaceonearth #rainiestplaceonearth #mawsynrammeghalaya #whyismawsynramthewettestplaceonearth? #mawsynramvillage #rainmawsynramaverageweather #mawsynramwettestplaceonearth #highestrainfallplaceonearth #mawsynramthewettestplaceonearth #southwestmonsoon #bayofbengal #banglaesh #cherrapunjee #upsccse #indiangeography #generalstudies #generalknowledge #govtexams
