Vanguard recently lowered the minimum investment for institutional class shares of its target date retirement funds. That seems like a good thing, right? After all, that will lower the cost of these TDR funds for some inside 401(k) and other workplace retirement accounts. • Unfortunately, the result was a tax nightmare for individual investors who owned these funds in taxable accounts.
