A visit to the Dovedale Stepping Stones and a climb up Thorpe Cloud were in order today as I made my way to the carp park in Tissington beside the Tissington Trail today. • From the car park I headed past Tissington Hall and the various wells in Tissington village before diverting off across the fields in the direction of Mill Dale. I passed by an old limekiln and experienced some great view along the way. • It was a steep drop down into Mill Dale followed by a gruelling climb back up again through the many stone walls into Alstonefield. Here I ate my lunch with a dinosaur watching my every mouthful so I had to pop over to say hello. • From Alstonefield I made my way through Hall Dale and into Dovedale. A beautiful stroll beside the River Dove followed, along with nipping up to explore the various caves along the way, the most interesting being Reynard's Cave which is best approached through the stone arch, as seen in the video. • I was soon at the stepping stones but deep water, hardly surprising after all the rain, made them impassable without getting wet feet. I was going for a climb up to the top of Thorpe Cloud next and thought the idea of trying to do that with soggy heavy boots was not going to be pleasant so opted not to attempt to cross. • No sooner was I up top of Thorpe Cloud for the first time and greeted by exceptional views. From there it was a short walk back to Tissington and to my start point. • A map of this walk can be found at https://explore.osmaps.com/route/1166...
