This is the fifth section of Part One. In this video, Merleau-Ponty discusses Freud, whom he likes for having asserted that every human act has a sense, even as he disagrees with Freud’s reduction of everything to a sexual sense. The important idea regarding sexuality is that it is constantly present in all human actions, but in an ambiguous way; such that we can’t say any act is explicitly sexual or non-sexual. In general, every act is a ‘taking up’ of a de facto situation, making it also a sense-giving (which Merleau-Ponty calls ‘transcendence’) which is fundamentally ambiguous because every act has more than one sense. • Website: http://www.absurdbeing.com • Twitter:   / absurdbeing   • Patreon: https://patreon.com/user?u=84430098
