The mother is a wild Californian sea otter that swam into the the Great Tide Pool area of the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. The seas were rough and she was looking for a safe area to have her baby. • Female Californian sea otters are around 50 pounds in weight and their babies range from around 3-5 pounds. The babies look much larger because of all the fluffy fur that covers their bodies to allow them to stay warm in the water and float, like a cork.
