How to Play In the Long Run by The Staves

Short tutorial on how to play In the Long Run from the Staves 2012 album, Dead Born Grown • UPDATE • I got some excellent feedback on this from the Acoustic Soundboard forum and have revised how I play this to bring it more into line with how Jessica plays it, using an alternating thumb style. Here's an explanation of the differences that I picked up from the forum (copied with permission)... • In various places in the verse and often towards the end she sounds to me to use a D7 (xx0212) rather than a straight D, plus or minus the extra 4th finger as on the D. Esp on but I know • The bridge is Em-A7-D7, and not Am as you mention in the vid whilst playing A5 x022xx (neither maj nor min). I can clearly hear a second string second fret note at the top of the A chord she uses, and maybe x0202x is what I'm hearing. • The F chord you worked out and wanted to name is called Fmaj7, and is, as you rightly point out, an F with an E in it! Again, I'd thumb alternately the 6th and 4th strings of a 103210 Fmaj7 shape (left thumb over as you do on the vid), but I think she sounds to be just using xx3210 with the thumb playing double time on the 4th string. • Then, the first time this Fmaj7 goes to a C shape, she uses a Cmaj7 (x3200x) and then adds the first finger to make a normal C (all happens during the word home ).
