Having spent the day with a drive which set-off in the beautiful Franschhoek region in the Western Cape, here is a quick look at what the refreshed Hyundai i20 and i20 Active have on offer. • The Hyundai i20 has concreted its name as Korea’s very strong competitor to the likes of its European and American counterparts, such as the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. Within this increasingly competitive market space, Hyundai has just introduced the refreshed i20 and i20 Active which offers a new standard of rugged appeal to the model. • The i20 is offered with two engine variants. A 1.2-litre engine with 61 kW and 115 Nm or the larger 1.4-litre powerplant with 74 kW and 133 Nm of torque. Road manners are excellent, with the i20 offering a ride which is both supple and confident in the bends while still remaining cushioning enough on the bumpier stretches of tarmac. The Active edition certainly lives up to its name with its impressive 20 mm of additional ride-height and true confidence creating handling which I spent time testing on tactical gravel and dirt paths. Power is mated to either a smooth shifting 6-speed manual transmission or comfortable 4-speed automatic gearbox. To couple the smooth delivery of power, the i20 manages impressive fuel economy averages. • The i20 has received a multitude of new styling touches, including its more angular and dynamic light design. This compliments a spattering of sharper lines, which give this refreshed model its more distinctive and refined character and continue to build on its handsome body style. • A spattering of colour coded trim bits can also be seen making their way onto the interior cabin space, with fun and vibrant colours, such as that found on the top of the manual gear selector. • The interior represents a sophisticated and well-assembled place to be seated, with what has to also be easily one of the most insulted and quite rides within its segment. The likes of a multitude of audio sources, Hyundai’s easy to navigate and impressive touchscreen multimedia system (with navigation for additional R2500) and premium build all add to the i20’s strong interior qualities. • This has always been a strong characteristic of the i20, with the new model offering an impressive luggage loading capacity of 285 litres, and 1 001 litres with the rear seatbacks folded down. Seats fold in the conventional 60:40 split and versatility owing to its hatchback boot. The new Active model also benefits from increased ride-height and a toughed appearance to match. • All derivatives have ventilated disc brakes in front and solid disc brakes at the rear, with a 4-wheel electronic, 4-channel and 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD). • Read our brief launch review full SA pricing at: • http://technobok.co.za/refreshed-2018... • Catch Us on Social Media at: • Twitter: @TechnoBokMedia • Instagram: @JasonCapeTown • Web: http://www.techbnobok.co.za/ • Be sure to subscribe to TechnoBok for weekly vehicle reviews at: •    / technobokunboxing   • Embedded Video/Logo Components: All embedded video/logo/audio components remain the property of their rightful and respective owners - all rights reserved –
