Today, we celebrate the birthday of Christy Mathewson. He was born back in 1880 in Factoryville, Pennsylvania. He was a scholar athlete at both the Keystone Academy and Bucknell University. Christy Mathewson played Baseball, Basketball and Football. To make some additional money in the summer, Mathewson would partake in semi-pro ball where his skills as a pitcher would ultimately land him a contract to play for the Norfolk Baseball Team. • Mathewson pitched so well for them that the New York Giants scouts took notice and offered the Norfolk Team $1,500 to sign him. After a little bouncing around and landing on the Cincinnatti Reds, he was traded back to the New York Giants where he would spend most of his career playing for. • He was one of the original five members of the Hall of Fame's first class in 1936. Sadly, he passed away prior to being inducted due to contracting Tuberculosis from chemical exposure from WW1. • He is one of the four players I collect. I enjoy his story and wish I could find some additional footage of him pitching, but the closest thing there is is warm up throws prior to a game. • Please enjoy this video! • Recent Videos: • • 1000 Subs VR for Darren of @returntoc... • • My Pickups at The National Sports Car... • • Buying Vintage at The National Sports... • • Day 1 At The National - Buying Vintag... • • My SGC Grading Submission for The Nat... • #baseballcards #cardshow #sportscards #baseballcardshow #thehobby • Subscribe: • https://www.youtube.com/c/SammyThunde... • Instagram: • / sammy_thunder_vintage • Playlists: • Baseball Card Shows - • Vintage Baseball Card Show - Garfield... • SGC Submissions Reveals - • SGC Grading Vintage Baseball Cards Re...
