This lady is concerned about a blister that has formed on the white part of her eye after eye bag removal surgery, and is wondering what caused it and if it will eventually go away. According to oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Amiya Prasad, swelling or blister-like bumps on the eye itself can be caused by fluid that tracks along the surface of the eyeball and under the conjunctiva, which is the mucous membrane that covers the front of the eye. This fluid can collect in this area of the eye during surgery, and cause irritation or reactive swelling. This type of irritation is called chemosis, and is similar to temporary swelling of eyelid skin after eyelid surgery. • Dr. Prasad says that if there are no obvious or serious signs of inflammation or infection, then it is not completely necessary to seek out treatments such as antibiotics or steroid drops. Simply waiting to allow the fluid under the conjunctiva to become absorbed is a good route to take. This type of irritation usually looks worse than it feels, and as long as the person’s vision is not compromised by the irritation, then it is likely that it will get better given a couple of weeks. • For more information about eye bag removal surgery, please visit our website at: • http://prasadcosmeticsurgery.com/tran... • For more information regarding Dr. Prasad’s background and training, please visit: • http://prasadcosmeticsurgery.com/dr-a...
