Our first week since the season started when we haven't had a powder day in Hakuba. 12 weeks is a good run and I still haven’t given up as we often get some good storms through March and into early April. • Spring is here and it is a great time to do some hiking with lots of sunny days and generally a more stable snowpack. The Tsugaike ropeway opens up late feb and that saves a 30 minute walk up to an amazing area at the back of the resort. It is backcountry and you do have to fill in a trip itinerary however there is a groomed track all the way back to the resort if you only want to have a little wander up there on a clear day. Maybe take a picnic lunch. It truly is a spectacular part of the world. I ended up there 3 times this week. • The Tsugaike ropeway is open right throughout the warmer months. It is closed from December through to the end of February due to avalanche risk in the area. We hope that one day they will start controlling the risk and we can use it safely right through winter. It is a good plan in the case of global warming as it does get a lot of snow up there. Check there website for more information about the resort. • https://www.tsugaike.gr.jp/ • Tonights drink of choice is an A to Z 2018 Pinot Gris from Oregon. A great wine for any occasion and a popular one at our restaurant.. • Thanks for watching. Please leave a comment and subscribe if you want to see more Hakuba and Japan information. • Kampai • TJ
