Ever wondered what it’s like to bring down a darted eland? • It takes serious teamwork and power! @mangatavets shows us and the Kruger Vet students how it’s done, handling a situation like this with skill and precision 👏🏼 • When immobilizing a large animal like an eland, the drugs can take longer to fully kick in. During that time, the eland might still have enough adrenaline and muscle control to keep moving, just like this big bull did! If the animal keeps moving and isn’t caught, the drugs can start wearing off, meaning it would have to be found and darted again—a risky scenario that could lead to “capture myopathy.” • The eland’s massive size and strong muscles often cause the drugs to act more slowly compared to smaller animals, leading to a delayed or partial response. This means the eland might continue walking for a bit before the immobilization fully takes hold, which sometimes requires a little extra help to bring them down. • Join us on one of our epic African projects, working with various wildlife and conservation teams! Experience the daily life of wildlife vets and conservationists firsthand, and make a real impact on the ground. • #GoldenWildebeest #Wildebeest #CapeBuffalo #AfricanVet #AfricanConservation #Volunteer #VolunteerVet #VolunteerAbroad #VetAbroad #AfricanVolunteer #Africa #AfricanWildlife #SouthAfrica #SouthAfricanWildlife #VetStudent #VetGrad #VetNurse #KrugerWildlife #KrugerNationalPark
