Master of Wine, David Allen, tries a slightly different style of wine from the Marlborough region of New Zealand's South Island, tasting the 2019 vintage of Te Whare Ra's Toru Single Vineyard 5182. The Toru blend, meaning 'three' in Maori, is a co-fermented blend of three aromatic white varieties; Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris. • Te Whare Ra (TWR) is a wine producer from Marlborough in New Zealand, in the Renwick sub-region. The estate has been owned by winemakers Anna and Jason Flowerday since 2003, and produces white and red wines made from Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Syrah, among others. • The estate's 11 hectare (27 acre) vineyard was originally planted in 1979 and is one of the oldest in the region. Like many vineyards in Marlborough, the soil is composed predominately of loam over clay, which retains water effectively during the dry, sunny growing season. Te Whare Ra's vineyard is certified organic, and is managed with biodynamic growing principles. Other wines in the collection are produced from fruit sourced from external vineyards. • In the vineyard, fruit is hand-picked and hand-sorted to remove any sub-standard grapes. The Te Whare Ra winery is specifically set up for small batch vinification where parcels within the vineyard can remain separate to best express terroir. • To find out more about this wine and where to buy it follow this link to the Wine-Searcher website: https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/te... • #winesearcher #winetasting #marlborough #twrtoru #toru #tewharera #twr #tewhreratoru #wines #winelover #materofwine #winelover #marlboroughwine #wineofnewzealand #newzealandwine
