Poinsettia was introduced from Mexico to the U.S in the 1820's by the 1st U.S Diplomat to Mexico- Joel Roberts Poinsett. Poinsettia plant was named after him. December 12 is National Poinsettia day in the U.S. The Poinsettia in Mexico is known as Flor De Noche Buena , Flower of the Holy Night as the leaves of the Poinsettia turned red on the Eve of Christmas.
