Valvate aestivation. • 2. Twisted, • 3. Ascendingly Imbricate, • 4. Descendingly Imbricate (Vexillary) and • 5. Quincuncial aestivation. Let us study them one by one. • VALVATE AESTIVATION: • Perianth lobes are arranged closely with small gaps between them. • Example:Calyx of Hibiscus. • TWISTED AESTIVATION: Perianth lobes overlap one another, in which one margin of one perianth lobe is covered by the margin of another perianth lobe. • All perianth lobes has one margin inside and one margin outside. • Examples:Corolla of Datura, Hibiscus. • ASCENDINGLY IMBRICATE AESTIVATION: • Each perianth lobe overlaps the perianth lobes present posterior to it. • The overlapping of perianth lobes appear in postero-anterior direction • In this one perinath lobe is completly present outside, and one perianth lobe is present completely inside. • The remaining three has one margin inside and one margin outside. • It is called 1+1+ 3 arrangement. Example:Corolla of Caesalpiniaceae. • DESCENDINGLY IMBRICATE AESTIVATION: • Each perianth lobe covers the perianth lobe present anterior to it.The overlapping of perianth lobes appear in postero anterior direction. • Example:Corolla of Fabaceae--called Papilionaceous corolla. • QUINCUNCIAL AESTIVATION: • It is also a twisted type of aestivation. • It shows five perianth lobes, in which two are present completely outside, two are present completely inside, fifthperianth member has one margin inside and one margin outside. • The perianth lobes appear in 2+2+1 manner. • Example:Calyx of Ipomea, Catharanthus.
