FIGHT? Hawaiian Monk Seals Face Off. A Hawaiian Monk seal comes a shore only to be encountered an aggressive larger seal. I can’t believe I was sitting in the perfect location to witness this awesome moment. The Hawaiian monk seal is a protected species so I had to keep my distance. I feel so blessed to have seen two Hawaiian Monk seals on the same beach at the same time. During our vacation to the island of Oahu in Hawaii, we saw 3 monk seals and to see two of them in action was awesome. Usually you just see them laying on the beach and that’s about it.
